Your Smartphone and Oral Hygiene Can Go Hand in Hand
At ARCH Orthodontics, we regularly tell our patients throughout the greater Boston area about the importance of keeping up with at-home, daily hygiene routines. It’s all about the brushing, the flossing, and avoiding the sticky, sugary foods. Did you know there’s a new reminder to help keep your smile healthy thanks to smartphone technology? It’s called Brush DJ and it’s designed to assist you and your smile.
Let’s admit it: We all rely heavily on our cell phones to keep connected with our friends, family, and the world around us. They can make your life so much easier. And now, thanks to this fun app, your smartphone can help you stay on top of your teeth cleaning routine.
How Long Should You Brush Your Teeth?
A plaque attack on your smile can be a real challenge. Plaque is sticky and simply loves to hide inside all of the hard-to-reach spaces between your teeth and around your mouth. Add braces to the equation and there’s even more cozy places for plaque to hide. Our ARCH Orthodontists always tell every patient about the importance of brushing teeth for two full minutes, twice a day. Studies have shown that this is the amount of time that it takes to effectively clean the four quadrants of your mouth.
It’s Simple. Just Jam Out and Brush.
Two minutes flies by when you are listening to your favorite tunes. The BrushDJ app plays two minutes of your own music playlist from your phone. The app shuffles songs too, so you can enjoy a new tune each time you’re ready to get your brush on. There’s also a handy visual display that acts as a guide, showing you where to brush and for how long. And forget about not remembering to keep up with your oral health. The app also gives you the opportunity to set helpful reminders for things like changing your toothbrush, flossing, and notifications of upcoming dental or orthodontic appointments.
Do you have an app or some other tactic that helps you remember to take care of your teeth? Maybe it’s your mom, dad, spouse, kids, or friends who never let you forget. We’d love to hear about your oral hygiene tips and tricks at your next appointment. And if you ever find yourself struggling or if you have questions about making sure your smile stays healthy, please don’t hesitate to ask your ARCH Orthodontist. We’re always happy to help!
