Local Orthodontist Agrees with Dale Carnegie: “Smiling Changes Everything”

… and an Orthodotonist can perfect your smile!

(Issued Winter 2020) — Noted social scientist Malcolm Gladwell, speaking on the importance of attractive teeth, said, “Increasingly, people are judged by their teeth, and having a great smile could increase earning power.”

He was referring to a survey that showed people with healthier-looking teeth were thought to be a lot more successful, looked five years younger, and it improved their employment potential.

Dr. Andrew Chase of ARCH Orthodontics agrees: “Even if you’re not looking for a new job or a raise, a beautiful smile can make you feel more confident and comfortable with yourself, and you’ll give an air of competence. How you smile, when you smile, and what your smile says about you can mean the difference between getting that dream job, making new friends, even getting that important date.”

Dr. Chase adds, “We believe many of our patients have better professional success due in part to their beautiful smiles. If a patient is successful and gets a job paying $50,000 more per year, ten over a 30-year career, it adds up to $1.5 million more than they might have made without Orthodontic work. So, Orthodontics shouldn’t be seen as an expense — but rather as an investment that can pay off in multiples.

“But in order to smile,” he says, “you need the confidence to do so. Many people fail to smile because they have dental or oral hygiene problems such as discolored, crooked, poorly spaced, or missing teeth. Your first impression about someone may depend on how they smile.”

In his famous book, How to Win Friends & Influence People, Dale Carnegie wrote, “Smiling costs nothing, but creates much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.”

ARCH offers several forms of braces and leading-edge, high-tech treatments including the Invisalign system with remote Dental Monitoring (DM) to reduce doctor visits. For people with less severe sleep apnea, They offer an orthotic device similar to a custom mouth guard that holds the jaw in a forward position and decreases the likelihood of the tongue blocking the airway. Another device can speed tooth movement and shorten Orthodontic treatment by several months. Since 1974, the ARCH team has treated some 35,000 patients from 4 to 84+. For children, ARCH offers Pediatric Dentistry at its Stoughton office. Dr. Chase advises that all children should have an Orthodontic checkup no later than age 7. This year, Dr. Chase is crusading against do-it-yourself Orthodontics.

ARCH Orthodontics, with 9 offices between Boston and Orleans on Cape Cod, offers free initial consultation and interest-free financing. Courtesy discounts are offered to anyone serving in the military and their families and veterans, and to municipal employees and their families in towns served by the practice.
