Have A Healthy, Happy Halloween

From Your Friends At ARCH Orthodontics

Halloween teensWhat’s not to love about October and Halloween? It’s the only time of year when you’re allowed to dress up like your favorite superhero or cartoon character and no one will bat an eyelash.

We’re partnering with the American Association of Orthodontists to make sure you treat yourself and your smile right during this oh-so-fun holiday. Just make sure to take extra precaution so that your braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliance are free of damage and debris.

Halloween Tips From Your ARCH Orthodontist

We see so many patients of all ages at our nine Greater Boston locations, and we want to make sure everyone enjoys this spooky holiday with family and friends. If you’re going trick-or-treating or taking your little ones out for the evening be sure to make safety a priority.

  1. Make sure little ones are always with an adult
  2. Carry a flashlight for added safety
  3. Try wearing a light-colored costume or add reflective tape
  4. If you can, try to use face paint instead of masks
  5. Check and inspect your treats — just to be sure

Orthodontic-Friendly Sweets & Treats

Whether you’re throwing a Halloween party or attending a few of them, be sure to keep your braces safe from anything that could do damage. We’re breaking down the good and the bad foods you’ll want to enjoy and avoid.

Say “Yes, please” to these snacks that are soft and easy to chew:

  • Soft chocolates and candies that melt easily in your mouth
  • Peanut butter cups
  • Milkshakes
  • Jello
  • Thinly sliced apples
  • Ice cream

Say “No, thank you” to foods that are hard or crunchy:

  • Bubblegum
  • Caramel
  • Nuts
  • Licorice
  • Taffy
  • Lollipops
  • Popcorn

The entire ARCH Orthodontics team hopes you and your family have a wonderful Halloween. Don’t forget to brush and floss your teeth after enjoying any sweets or other spooky foods.

If you have any specific questions about foods that are harmful to your braces, please don’t hesitate to call your local ARCH office. We’re always happy to help keep you smile healthy.
