(Issued SUMMER 2018) — Summer is the best time to start your Orthodontic treatment, says. Dr. Andrew Chase of ARCH Orthodontics. Among the top reasons:
- More time in to get used to braces — Sometimes it takes a few weeks to adjust to wearing and caring for new braces, especially for younger children. There’s a definite learning curve: adapting to new braces at home is easier than adapting at school.
- More time to choose the right braces — You can relax with a more flexible schedule, not
constrained by school schedules and extracurricular activities. - More time to spend as a family, even if it’s visiting the Orthodontist. Many folks combine these appointments with going out for lunch or visiting a museum or seeing friends and relatives.
- Less hassle scheduling appointments — Both you and the doctor have more scheduling flexibility.
- Many kids experience growth spurts during the summer. This means that your child’s teeth will get a head start, moving into their desired position as their jaw grows.
- Families have a better handle on their annual flex plans and how much needs to be used before the end of the year which can be used to cover their dental plan.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have a checkup with an Orthodontist by age 7, although usually Orthodontic treatment isn’t recommended to begin until a few years later. Final decisions should be made among the parent, child’s Dentist and Orthodontist. With early detection, potential problems can be corrected and prevented. ARCH Orthodontic patients range in age from 4 to 84. Some 30% of braces patients are adults!
Dr. Chase says, “Don’t put off your braces check-up until the Fall when everyone is much busier. Patients like to get settled in nicely with braces over the Summer and get ready for a great year ahead.” ARCH offers free initial consultation (a $500 value), and interest-free financing. Veterans and members of the military and their families receive a courtesy discount. ARCH has 9 offices from Boston to Hyannis.
